The Sweet Smell of Success!

May 25, 2017 Clare Marshall

Recently I’ve started to accept that multitasking is pretty much the only way to survive motherhood! How else do you keep your kids fed, the house clean, you showered and the bills paid?! Ok so admittedly it’s more about quantity than quality right now ie. most of the tasks  get done but to a pretty low standard.

So when my friend recently mentioned the awesomeness of essential oils, in particular the calming properties of Lavender and Chamomile, it started to dawn on me that just by adding a blend of these to my homemade play dough recipe - this could be the most successful multitasking mum moment ever!
Mr 3 loves play dough and goodness knows he needs some quiet calm down time in his day.

So it turns out that this works an absolute treat! Just add a few drops of your favorite combinations to this tried and tested Play Dough recipe.

Ingredients
1.5 cups of flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 tbs of cream of tartar
1 tbs of oil / or coconut oil if you prefer
Food coloring
1 cup of boiling water

Directions
Mix the flour, cream of tartar, and oil together in a large mixing bowl.
Add the salt to the boiling water so that it dissolves fully.
Now add the food coloring to the water - it will mix better if added now.
Stir well until the mixture is well combined.

I made a batch of green and blue to go with his current dinosaur obsession. I then added 6 drops of the calming blend from Natio to both Play Dough colors.

Mr. 3 loves making the play dough into little worlds for his mini dino friends and as he worked the dough, the calming smells wafted up into the air. When we took it inside to play with, it made the room smell great too which is a pleasant bonus what with all the nappies we get through with Ms. 11 months.

It’s a pretty tall order to calm Mr 3 after a day out with grandpa aka the candyman, but I will say that Mr. 3 sat happily and played for almost half an hour with his dinosaur world and we didn’t have too many tantrums before being called to dinner. Thats a big high five for Multitasking Mum and a big high 5 to essential oils!

Tonight I’m going to try adding a few drops to my bath water while I soak away the day with a glass of wine in my hand... now that sounds like my kind of multitasking!
